Microsoft has positioned itself for the cloud computing market with Azure, AtomPub and SQL Server Data Services, yet aside from Microsoft's .NET, there is Mono, an open source implementation of .NET for Linux, Mac and Windows platform, supporting ASP.NET on Apache web servers. Linden Labs uses Mono for Second Life: http://www.mono-project.com/
